Abkhazia, Georgia, and Ossetia
Modified 15 October 2009
- Abkhazia — A fragment of the old USSR, it's either a part of Georgia or a new country, depending on who you ask. They started printing their own passports in October, 1998, but it's unclear how universally they will be recognized. http://www.abkhazia.org/
- South Ossetia — a would-be country violently splitting off from Georgia in an ongoing multi-year civil war.
- Georgia — See the Georgia section of my page on cyberwarfare for some details on significant attacks on Georgian web servers. It was apparently a case of patriotic Russians more or less on their own. The Russian government did not overtly direct the attacks, but it certain did not attempt to stop them or even disapprove.
