Kosovo

Before early 1999 this was an obscure entry in this list. The Slavic Serbs want to control Kosovo, and have engaged in a mix of forced eviction and genocide. The Albanian Kosovars want to go on living in the land they say they have occupied since the 1400's or so. The KLA, Kosovo Liberation Army, is among the anti-Serb forces. Some Kosovan factions are pretty unpleasant themselves. But, despite Milosovic's propaganda to the contrary, genocidal extinction of the Serbian people didn't seem to be on anyone's agenda. At least not until he inspired it among some Kosovars.
