Sapporo
Sapporo
I had been in Otaru, on the northwest coast of Hokkaidō.
From there I took a local train to Sapporo.
It's Japan's fifth-largest city,
and the largest city north of Tōkyō.
The Ainu people settled
the area of today's Sapporo
beginning over 15,000 years ago.
The Yamato people,
what we now think of as the modern people of Japan,
began moving into the area in the late 1800s.
