January 2009 — A "russian cybermilitia" launched a distributed denial of service attack against the two biggest Internet service providers in Kyrgyzstan, largely cutting the country off the Internet. A few days later, Kyrgyzstan announced that the U.S. military would have to vacate Manas Air Base. Apparently the DDOS attack was part of the Russian pressure.
